Eating Out

While we would love you to dine in The Olive Tree every night during your stay, we fully understand that you may wish to sample some of the other culinary delights available in and around Bath.

The following information is not meant to be definitive guide to dining out in the area. Rather it is a commentary on some of the restaurants that Helen and Laurence have enjoyed eating in over the last couple of years, We believe that these restaurants consistently deliver good food, a great atmosphere and value for money. If you would like any advice on where to eat, please discuss your needs with the team.

Fine Dining
(Expensive Indulgence, great for foodies and special occasions!)

The Bath Priory.
The Bath Priory is a bit of a must. Head Chef Chris Horridge has been cooking at this privately owned hotel for the last 2 years. His cooking can be described as quite adventurous with plenty of use of seasonal produce and herbs from the extensive kitchen garden at the hotel. The restaurant is formal, service very attentive. Extensive and excellent wine list.

  Lucknam Park
Similar to the Bath Priory. Lucknam Park set on the edge of Bath is a wonderful traditional country house hotel. Hywel Jones has again been here for a couple of years and has maintained the restaurant dining experience to the highest standards. The hotel and grounds are worth the trip out to see as the house itself is grand without being austere.

Smart Casual Dining

  The Pinch
Christophe Lacroix has consistently turned out modern French cuisine in this small but atmospheric restaurant on Margaret’s Buildings just off the Circus. Dishes are well presented and packed with flavour. Refurbished in 2007.

  Hudson Bar & Grill
The newer of Richard Fenton's restaurants in Bath. Any lover of a great steak will enjoy this restaurant. Located at the top of Walcot Stree, the atmosphere is very relaxed, the service friendly and the menu reflecting a typical New York Grill. This is one of our favourites in Bath and we have never been let down when out with a group of friends.

  The Firehouse Rottiserrie
A well established favourite on the Bath dining scene for over 12 years. This was Richard Fentons first restaurant venture and delivers consistent Californian cuisine. Great Texas rubbed chicken and jalapeño coleslaw. Set right in the centre of town, this is one of Bath’s great lunch spots.

  The Beaujolais Bistro.
This restaurant is somewhat of an institution in Bath, run by the genial Jean-Pierre Auge. This is a great French Bistro just off Queen Square. Busy and bustling, great value wines by the glass and bottle, a simple menu of homely French cuisine. Go as much for the atmosphere with friends as somewhere to eat.

  Gascoyne Place
We have eaten here on several occasions at lunch and dinner. The dining areas are quite small and the tables a little cramped. But the food is well prepared and it is crossed between a restaurant and gastro pub. It is in a great location for somewhere to eat pre or post theatre as it is just across the road from the Theatre Royal.

  La Flamma
This is a new restaurant on George Street offering traditional Alsacian cuisine in a contemporary restaurant setting. It is good fun at lunch or perfect for an early evening supper.

Gastro Pubs
Bath has lots to offer on the gastro pub scene. Food quality can vary but most offer reasonable standards of dining in great locations.

Central Bath
The White Hart at Widcombe
The Marlborough Tavern near Royal Victoria Park
The Chequers on Russel Street

Out of Town
The Wheatsheaf at Combe Hay
The Bathampton Mill
The Bathwick Boatman

Cafes
There are many cafes in the centre of town offering lots of variety for a quick coffee or a sandwich. However it is worth seeking out the following:-

Cafe Shoon on the third floor of the Shoon shop on Old Bond Street.
Bloomsbury Cafe, second floor of Bloomsbur, bottom of Milsom St.
The Adventure Cafe on George Street.
